Mission
Statement
The Center for Infectious Disease (CID) is dedicated to improving
the lives of the world’s people through combating infectious diseases.
Building on Georgetown University’s excellence in infectious disease research,
our goals are to develop new chemotherapeutics, diagnostics and vaccines
via research on microbial pathogens and their interactions with human
hosts. We also seek to draw on Georgetown’s international reputation
in biomedical ethics, public health policy and law to establish a broader
intellectual framework for biomedical research. The CID champions
basic scientific research, but also studies how biomedical research in
infectious disease is best embedded within policy, ethical and legal considerations.
