Mission Statement

The Center for Infectious Disease (CID) is dedicated to improving the lives of the world’s people through combating infectious diseases. Building on Georgetown University’s excellence in infectious disease research, our goals are to develop new chemotherapeutics, diagnostics and vaccines via research on microbial pathogens and their interactions with human hosts. We also seek to draw on Georgetown’s international reputation in biomedical ethics, public health policy and law to establish a broader intellectual framework for biomedical research. The CID champions basic scientific research, but also studies how biomedical research in infectious disease is best embedded within policy, ethical and legal considerations.

Functions of the Center

  • Promote international health through research and education.
  • Stimulate and facilitate communication between Georgetown’s infectious disease researchers and internal and external audiences.
  • Provide networking opportunities across infectious disease research laboratories.
  • Foster an environment conducive to training graduate students and fellows.
  • Solicit and create new funding opportunities for infectious disease research and training.
  • Strengthen connections between biomedical researchers and policy, ethics and law scholars.
